About Butler University

Butler University is a private liberal arts university in Indianapolis, which is the capital of Indiana US State, as well as the county seat of Marion County. In 2008, the population of Indianapolis was estimated at a number of nearly 800 000 inhabitants, making it the largest city in the state, the 14th largest city in USA, the largest city in the Midwest, the second most populated state capital, as well as the most populated state capital east of Mississippi River.

Butler University was founded in 1855, by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler, by whom the university is also named. When it was first opened, the university was known as the North Western Christian University, being renamed in 1875, becoming Butler University, by which name is known today.

Since it was founded, Butler grew, serving today a number of more than 4000 undergraduate and graduate students, offering them 60 degree programs, through 5 different colleges, which include the College of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
